Today is the first day of a double holiday in Brazil, combining a Brazilian holiday known as "Tiradentes" with the Easter weekend. Normally these 2 holidays are not together, but because Easter is late this year they fall in the same week. Whenever there are holidays that fall on or near weekends, giving an extended weekend, hundreds of thousands of people leave large cities like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in droves. Many go to the country, and even more go to the coastal areas and beaches like Santos and surrounding cities. Our coastal area is known as the "Baixada Santista" and includes 10 different cities. It is expected that between 300,000 to 400,000 cars will leave Sao Paulo to visit the coast for the extended Easter weekend.
