Manaus is a city located in the Amazon region of northern Brazil. It is the capital city of the state of Amazonas, and has a population of 1.7 million people. Manaus is the 8th largest city in Brazil, and is located near the convergence of the Rio Negro (Black River) and the Amazon River. The Rio Negro is the largest tributary of the Amazon River. Manaus receives many tourists visiting the Amazon River and rain forest.
